THE HISTORY BEHIND THE MARINE NAVY BLUE
The darkest shade of blue, formally known as marine blue, was adopted as the official color for British Royal Navy uniforms. The Marine Navy blue was worn by officers and sailors from 1748. But, now in the modern era, the modern navies have darkened the color of their uniforms to almost black to avoid fading. The historical navy blue from the 18th century had Indigo dye as the basis.
