ZAHID LATIF — DESIGN, CULTURE & ZLCOPENHAGEN

DESIGN, CULTURE & THE WORK OF ZAHID LATIF

Zahid Latif is a Danish-Pakistani designer, educated in clothing design and founder of ZLCOPENHAGEN — an independent platform working at the intersection of craft, culture, ethics, and contemporary menswear. His work moves between fashion, writing, and cultural analysis, grounded in lived experience rather than trends or seasonal cycles.

Born and raised in Denmark as the son of migrant workers, Zahid Latif’s perspective is shaped by both Scandinavian design traditions and South Asian cultural heritage. This dual background informs not only the aesthetic of his work, but also the questions he engages with: identity, labor, craftsmanship, responsibility, and the role of culture in shaping modern life.

ROOTS IN CRAFT AND CLOTHING DESIGN

Zahid Latif was educated in clothing design, with a strong foundation in garment construction, materials, fit, and production processes. His approach to fashion is rooted in hands-on craftsmanship, respect for materials, and an understanding of how clothing interacts with the body over time.

Rather than following fast fashion logic, his work emphasizes longevity, repairability, and intentional design. This philosophy later became central to the creation of ZLCOPENHAGEN, a brand built around slow production, small runs, and a direct relationship between designer, product, and wearer.

ZLCOPENHAGEN — FASHION AS LANGUAGE

Founded by Zahid Latif, ZLCOPENHAGEN is not positioned as a conventional fashion label. It functions as a design studio, journal, and cultural platform where fashion is treated as a language — a way to communicate values, history, and perspective.

The brand works with diverse materials and techniques, including handcrafted accessories, textiles, and menswear, often drawing inspiration from both Nordic minimalism and South Asian craftsmanship. Sustainability is approached not as marketing, but as structure: fewer products, thoughtful sourcing, and transparency in production.

CULTURE, WRITING & INDEPENDENT THINKING

Alongside design, Zahid Latif is active as a writer and cultural commentator. Through essays and long-form articles, he explores topics such as culture, power, representation, ethics, and the intersection between media and identity.

His writing reflects an independent critical stance — questioning dominant narratives while remaining grounded in documented sources, lived experience, and historical context. Rather than positioning himself within rigid ideological frames, his work emphasizes critical reflection, nuance, and accountability.

EDUCATION & STRATEGIC PERSPECTIVE

In addition to his design background, Zahid Latif continues to expand his analytical skillset through formal studies in strategy and analysis, including coursework in Strategic Analysis and Strategy Development at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU).

This academic perspective informs both his business decisions and cultural work, strengthening his ability to connect creative practice with long-term thinking, systems analysis, and sustainable strategy.

A LONG-TERM PRACTICE

Zahid Latif’s work is intentionally long-term. Rather than chasing visibility or virality, his focus remains on building a body of work that can stand independently over time — intellectually, ethically, and materially.

Whether through design, writing, or cultural projects, his practice is centered on clarity, craftsmanship, and responsibility. ZLCOPENHAGEN, and the work surrounding it, reflects a commitment to doing fewer things — but doing them with depth.
