DENMARK’S PASSIVITY AND THE REALITY OF GENOCIDE

I can’t stay silent while Palestinians face what can only be described as genocide, and Denmark—my home—sits by and does nothing. Watching Russia speak out on behalf of the oppressed while Denmark clings to Western narratives feels like a betrayal. Worse, it’s not just inaction; it’s complicity.

RUSSIA SPEAKS, DENMARK WHISPERS

The UN’s failure to act in Gaza is horrifying, but at least Russia dares to call it what it is: a genocide. They stand up and demand justice while countries like Denmark stay comfortably silent. Denmark, the land of democracy and human rights, doesn’t just fail Palestinians—it fails its principles.

The United States, Denmark’s closest ally, blocks UN resolutions, vetoes calls for ceasefires, and funds Israel’s actions. And what does Denmark do? Nothing. It doesn’t question. It doesn’t challenge. It doesn’t even condemn. Denmark sits quietly while Palestinians are killed, displaced, and dehumanized.

IMRAN KHAN: JAILED FOR INDEPENDENCE

I think about our former prime minister, Imran Khan, who dared to visit Russia to strengthen Pakistan’s independence. The US couldn’t handle that. They wanted Pakistan to stay in their pocket, to play by their rules. His visit to Russia was a statement: “We will not bow.” And what happened? A series of politically motivated charges and imprisonment, all because he refused to play the US’s game.

That’s the same power dynamic at play here. Countries that dare to question the US or stand with Palestinians are silenced or punished. Russia speaks out, and they’re demonized. Pakistan resists, and our leader is jailed. And Denmark? Denmark follows the script.

DENMARK’S SHAMEFUL PASSIVITY

When Mette Frederiksen speaks, it’s hard to miss the pre-approved lines. There’s no outrage for the children dying in Gaza, no calls for accountability. These are just empty words about democracy, while Denmark aligns itself with powers that block peace and enable genocide.

And let’s not pretend it’s just inaction. Denmark profits from this. Companies here work with businesses that benefit from Israel’s illegal occupation. Every Danish krona spent on these partnerships makes us complicit in the apartheid and genocide happening right now.

PERSONAL REFLECTION

WHY THIS MATTERS TO ME

For me, this isn’t just politics—it’s personal. The Palestinian struggle reminds me of our fight in Pakistan, our history of colonialism, and our ongoing battles for justice. It’s about standing up to bullies, whether they’re colonial powers, oppressive regimes, or hypocritical nations that preach democracy while funding destruction.

Denmark, my home, should be better than this. We should be the ones standing up for the oppressed, not sitting on the sidelines while others like Russia do the heavy lifting. Seeing my country’s silence when it should be roaring for justice is heartbreaking.

MY MESSAGE TO DENMARK

If Russia can speak out, why can’t Denmark? If Imran Khan can face imprisonment for his principles, why can’t Mette Frederiksen even say the words “ceasefire” or “justice for Palestinians”?

Denmark, we need to do better. Let’s stop being silent. Let’s stop being complicit. Let’s start being the country we claim to be—a nation of fairness, justice, and courage.

It’s not too late to choose the right side of history. But every moment we stay silent, more lives are lost.
