Andres Moca is one of our most talented photographers. He is from Mérida, Spain, and is known for his ability to capture male beauty through the lens. WHY DOES IT INSPIRE FEAR?
The golden image is a visual masterpiece. It screams luxury and perfection. But a contrasting thought emerges in my mind: What happens when we connect this form of aesthetics to something we fear—like Hamas?
For many Danes, the word Hamas is almost taboo. It is associated with conflict, war, and fear. But I want to challenge this. Can beauty and fear coexist? Can we see something different when we dare to break with our preconceived notions? Read more here about phobia.
ANDRES MOCA: A MASTER OF AESTHETICS
Andres Moca does not comment on my thoughts or interpretations—his focus is on beauty and technique. He says:
I have always been fascinated by fashion photography, but male physique photography holds a special place for me. A man’s body can convey a particular depth and strength in an image.
His images are created with precision. Cameras from Canon, advanced lenses, and meticulously planned lighting setups are his tools. It’s pure art. But the power of art lies in how we, as viewers, interpret it differently.
J’ADORE OR JIHAD
What do I see? When I look at Andres’ golden model, I see a balance between the beautiful and the dangerous. I see Dior’s glamour, but I also see something that evokes fear. And this contrast is exactly what I want to highlight.
What does gold mean to you? Is it merely luxury and beauty, or can it also symbolize power, control, and something beyond our comfort zone?
HAMAS AND LUXURY
A DELIBERATE PROVOCATION
The intention of this article is not to speak on Andres’ behalf but to use his art to raise questions. Why are we provoked by pairing Hamas and Dior in the same sentence? What is it about this combination that challenges us?
To me, words like Hamas represent resistance and struggle, but they also represent a deep complexity that is rarely understood. When they are connected to something as pure as gold and Dior, they create a narrative that forces us to think.
WHAT DOES PROVOCATION MEAN IN ART?
The role of art is to make us pause and reflect. Andres Moca’s images can celebrate beauty and fashion, but for me, they are also a tool to challenge the mindset of those who view them. Who controls the information war?

Working with Andres Moca is always a fantastic experience. His eye for detail and ability to capture the perfect moment make him one of the most talented photographers I have ever collaborated with. Whenever we develop new ideas and creative projects together, he impresses me with his vision and technique.
I enjoyed asking Andres a few questions about his passion for male physique photography and his creative process. Here’s what he had to say:
WHY DID YOU START PHOTOGRAPHING MALE PHYSIQUE MODELS?
I have always been fascinated by fashion photography in general, but I must admit that male photography holds a special place in my heart. I feel that a male body can convey a particular strength and depth in my images. It’s as though every line, every muscle, tells a story that goes deeper than the visual.
As a creative collaborator, I find this approach inspiring. Andres’ passion for masculine expression gives his images a unique character that makes them impossible to overlook.
WHAT DEFINES A GOOD PHYSIQUE MODEL?
A good model has a great physique and an expressive face, but it’s also about attitude. A model who can deliver strength and vulnerability in front of the camera creates the best results.
Andres and I have often discussed how the right model can elevate an image from good to exceptional. I admire his ability to find that balance.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE, AND WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT?
I use Canon cameras, telephoto lenses, and wide-angle lenses, but the lighting is the most important thing for me. Good lighting equipment—flashes and accessories—is the foundation of everything I do. It allows me to shape and highlight the details in my images.
I also emphasize his focus on lighting in our creative collaborations. The lighting in his images creates a sense of intimacy and drama that truly makes them unique.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST INTERESTING EXPERIENCE DURING A PHOTOSHOOT?
“Every photoshoot is a new experience for me. I can’t point to one that stands out more than the others because every session brings something unique. It’s about enjoying the process and seeing how the final result turns out.”
I can relate to this. When collaborating on creative projects, the process is as important as the outcome. Andres’ ability to be present and let creativity flow makes him a dream to work with.
WHICH OF YOUR PHOTOS ARE YOUR FAVORITES?
It’s always difficult to choose, but if I have to highlight one, it would be the photo of Brais Bugarin with Egyptian styling. There’s something timeless and magical about it. I have also been very impressed by models like Alejandro Cifo, Brais Bugarin, and Manuel Hoyas. They have incredible physiques and a strong presence in front of the camera.
When Andres talks about his favourite works, it becomes clear how much he invests in each photo. This passion and dedication are what make his work so captivating.
