US THREAT TO PAKISTAN
GEOPOLITICAL TENSIONS: WHY I SPEAK OUT ON PAKISTAN, THE US, AND GLOBAL POWER STRUGGLES
As someone who was born in Denmark but has deep roots in Pakistan, I’ve always had the unique ability to see the world through two distinct lenses. Living in the West while maintaining close ties to family in Pakistan, as well as throughout Europe, gives me a broader view of global issues. This perspective allows me to critically analyze the political dynamics between powerful countries and the often-vulnerable nations they try to control.
In my work, I’ve seen how important it is for businesses, individuals, and entire nations to maintain their independence, make decisions that align with their values, and stand firm in the face of outside pressure. This is why the growing tensions between Pakistan and the US, along with the larger geopolitical chess game involving China and Russia, have deeply resonated with me. It’s not just about politics; it’s about sovereignty, independence, and the ability to determine one’s own future.
THE US THREAT TO PAKISTAN: MY PERSPECTIVE
For me, the situation in Pakistan isn’t just another geopolitical story. It’s personal. The US threat to Pakistan and the removal of Imran Khan—a leader democratically elected by the people—has made me reflect on the neocolonial tactics that powerful nations still use today. Despite being the most popular leader in Pakistan, with over 61% of the population supporting him even after his removal, Khan was ousted because he refused to bow to the foreign policy demands of the US.
I’ve spoken to friends and family in Pakistan, and across Europe in countries like Norway and the UK, who feel similarly. They see how the media portrays the West as victims while smaller nations like Pakistan are often manipulated into submission. The US-backed coup against Imran Khan serves as a clear example of how larger powers still dictate the policies of smaller nations to serve their own geopolitical interests.
IMRAN KHAN AND RUSSIA VISIT: A DEFINING MOMENT
One of the pivotal moments leading to Khan’s ouster was his visit to Russia on February 24, 2022—the same day Russia began its military operation in Ukraine. Khan’s trip had been planned months in advance, focused on strengthening Pakistan-Russia trade relations. The deals discussed were intended to provide much-needed economic relief to Pakistan, including access to cheaper oil and wheat.
However, this did not sit well with the US. The Washington establishment expected Pakistan to side with them in the Ukraine conflict. But Khan chose neutrality, a stance that aligned with Pakistan’s interests, not the US’s. As a result, the US exerted pressure on Pakistan, and in a diplomatic cable leaked later in 2023, it was revealed that US Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu threatened Pakistan with isolation if Khan was not removed.
WHY I FEEL IT’S IMPORTANT TO SPEAK OUT
For me, as someone who bridges both Western and Eastern perspectives, it’s vital to speak out against these coercive tactics. While the West often portrays itself as a defender of democracy, it seems that democracy is only respected when it aligns with their geopolitical goals. In the case of Imran Khan, who stood for Pakistan’s sovereignty, independence, and the well-being of his people, the US used its influence to ensure his removal.
My company, which values independence and sustainable growth, operates on principles that align with Imran Khan’s vision for Pakistan. We believe in empowering individuals and organizations to make decisions that benefit their communities—not just those that serve outside interests. The US’s actions in Pakistan undermine this very principle, and that’s why I feel compelled to raise my voice.
US-BACKED COUP IN PAKISTAN: A HISTORY OF INTERFERENCE
The US-backed coup that removed Imran Khan is part of a broader pattern of interference seen globally. Throughout history, Washington has orchestrated regime changes in countries that refused to align with its interests. From the overthrow of Iran’s Prime Minister in 1953 to the more recent coups in Latin America, the US continues to exert its influence in nations that choose sovereignty over subservience.
The removal of Khan and the installation of a pro-Western regime in Pakistan was a calculated move to ensure Pakistan remains aligned with US objectives, particularly in the context of the growing influence of China and Russia. This is why I, along with many others, see it as my responsibility to shed light on these manipulative tactics.
THE PERSONAL IMPACT: WHAT MY FAMILY SEES
I often discuss these global tensions with family in Pakistan and relatives scattered across Europe. They’ve shared similar concerns about how the West’s portrayal of itself as a victim is far from accurate. The media often ignores the suffering of those in countries like Pakistan, where external meddling results in political instability, economic hardship, and the loss of sovereignty.
Living in Denmark, I witness firsthand how these events are reported in Western media. The narrative is one-sided, often neglecting the voices of those in smaller nations who are directly affected by these geopolitical maneuvers. It’s alarming to think that while the West speaks of democracy, it actively works to destabilize democratic leaders when their policies do not align with Western interests.
PAKISTAN’S STRUGGLE FOR SOVEREIGNTY: A COMMON FIGHT
The struggle Pakistan faces today isn’t unique. It’s the same battle fought by many countries striving to maintain their sovereignty in the face of foreign interference. Imran Khan’s downfall should serve as a wake-up call for all of us who believe in the importance of independence, whether it be for a nation or a business.
As someone connected to both the West and Pakistan, I understand the nuances and complexities of these tensions. But more importantly, I see the clear pattern of how powerful nations manipulate smaller ones to serve their own interests. This is why it’s crucial for me—and others like me—to raise awareness about the real motivations behind these political moves and to advocate for true independence.
CONCLUSION: WHY THIS MATTERS
At its core, the US threat to Pakistan, the removal of Imran Khan, and the subsequent installation of a pro-Western regime highlight the ongoing struggle between powerful and vulnerable nations. For me, this isn’t just a geopolitical issue—it’s a personal one. I feel compelled to speak out because the fight for sovereignty, whether in Pakistan or anywhere else, is a fight for justice.
We must recognize these neocolonial tactics for what they are and stand against them. As someone who has the privilege of seeing both sides, I urge everyone to take a closer look at how global power dynamics play out—and how, more often than not, it’s the people of smaller nations who pay the price.
