Martin Luther besk\u00e6ftiger sig i sine senere skrifter med j\u00f8diske tekster \u2013 is\u00e6r Talmud. I “Om j\u00f8derne og deres l\u00f8gne” (1543) og “Om Shem Hamphoras” fremf\u00f8rer han synspunkter om j\u00f8disk teologi og praksis, som han vurderer ud fra sin egen kristne forst\u00e5else.     YTRINGSFRIHED VS. ANSVAR<\/h2>\n

    Jeg havde besluttet mig for ikke l\u00e6ngere at skrive, hverken om j\u00f8derne eller imod dem. Men eftersom jeg har l\u00e6rt, at disse elendige og forbandede mennesker ikke holder op med at lokke selv os, det vil sige de kristne, til sig, har jeg udgivet denne lille bog, for at jeg kunne blive regnet blandt dem, der gjorde modstand mod s\u00e5dan en giftig virksomhed fra j\u00f8derne, og som advarer de kristne mod dem. Jeg ville ikke have troet, at en kristen kunne blive forf\u00f8rt af j\u00f8derne til at tage deres eksil og elendighed p\u00e5 sig.     B\u00e5de Martin Luther og Skaale forholder sig til religi\u00f8se tekster, som de tolker og fremf\u00f8rer i en offentlig kontekst.
